Can you recycle your old carpet?

The good news is that there is a range of ways that you can recycle and make sure your carpet doesn’t end up in the landfill.

Carpets are made from synthetic fibres, giving them plenty of uses even after they’ve been removed from the home.

Manufacturers can repurpose them into products such as underlay, insulation, equestrian surfaces, and even components for washing machines.

Recycling carpets also helps reduce waste going to landfill while cutting down the need to produce new materials, allowing valuable resources to be reused more efficiently.

Why We Recycle

Wanting to recycle is one of the most important things we can do in order to help preserve the environment.

Often, the products that we use are made in a way which is harmful to the environment. Recycling makes use of products that would otherwise have gone to waste and prevents the need to make more.

This therefore reduces the level of impact that the production of a new product would have on the environment.

Some people don’t recycle because they don’t think it makes much of a difference. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Carpets make up a whopping 400,000 tonnes of waste.

Due to their wonderfully reusable materials, there’s simply no reason for this to be the case! It is our goal as part of Carpet Recycling UK, alongside nearly 100 other companies, to reduce this completely and get rid of that waste entirely.

It’s an amazing goal and one that’s entirely achievable, but only with your help.

Recycling in the United Kingdom saves an eye-watering 10-15 million tonnes of carbon waste every single year. That is the equivalent of taking quite literally millions of cars off the road. It would equate to more than a 10% reduction of all the cars in the country.

Put simply, recycling doesn’t just make an impact, it’s a colossal reduction, and with carpet recycling, we think we can help reduce that impact even further.

Who Are We And Where Can You Find Us?

Floorstore was initially established in 1961 as part of the Jims Carpets Group, and since then, we’ve become a market leader in the retail flooring industry.

We’re well known for our stunning 135-year-old original store on Kirkstall Road in Leeds.

However, that’s not the only place you can find us.

We also have two showrooms: one in Leeds (Roseville Road) and one in Wakefield (Ings Road). Both boasting 18,000 square feet, designed to showcase the very best flooring that we have to offer.

Other Recycling Options We Offer

In addition to helping save the environment by recycling the waste of unwanted carpets, we also offer a service to recycle your old bed to the British Heart Foundation.

Not only does this have all the great environmental benefits of recycling, but you’ll also be supporting a wonderful charitable cause.

They take bed frames, mattresses and other types of furniture.
